WINNIPEG HENNA ARTIST

Lori Fast

I've been doodling since I could first pick up a pencil. As my doodles evolved, I discovered the art of Henna. The patterns I enjoyed doodling were similar to the designs I saw in Henna tattoos, so it was a natural transition for me to begin using henna as an extension of my creativity and art.

I began playing with henna in 2013 and absolutely fell in love with it. Mostly self taught, I love exploring different cultural designs and creating my own unique style. I've taken classes with someone the worlds best artists and studied abroad in Northern India
.

I offer both traditional and contemporary designs that can be customized to your style.

Henna History

The Art of Henna is a well known tradition, used for over 5000 years in India, Africa and the Middle East. Henna has been used to decorate the body and amplify ones beauty. It is believed across many cultures that henna is used to bless and protect the wearer. Different designs and patterns can be found in different areas of the world symbolizing different cultural beliefs.
Most commonly known form of Henna is Mehndi, where brides in India are decorated before they celebrate their Wedding.

HENNA's MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Did you know that the henna plant  has a wide range of medicinal properties and has been used for various ailments dating back as early as 1500BCE. It's more than simply a dye used for cosmetic decoration. It has antimicrobial and antibacterial affects and has been used for eons to treat a wide range of skin disorders.

Henna can heal wounds, and is effective on burns, frost bite and is a natural sunblock.

The oil from the henna plant can be used to heal arthritis and cure liver disorders. To name only a few of it's healing qualities, this is likely why Henna is called the "magic plant", and also the reason why you feel so good when you have henna on your body.

WHAT IS HENNA?

Henna is a plant that grows in hot climates and stains the skin a deep earthy red tone. I make my own henna paste, to ensure no harmful chemicals are added. The powder comes from Rajasthan, India. I add only an essential oil like lavender or tea tree oil,  some water and a table spoon of sugar to help make the paste be sticky.

Henna stains can last anywhere from 7-14 days.

Henna Aftercare

Since Henna is a natural plant dye, it requires ample amount of time to absorb into your skin. The longer the paste stays on your skin, the deeper it will stain and the longer the tattoo will last. Try to keep the henna paste on your skin for 4-8 hours then simply flake the dry paste off. The stain will be an orange at first and then slowly turn into a deep red color. Try not to get your henna wet for several hours after application.

Aftercare; apply coconut oil to help keep the stain dark.

It takes approximately 48 hours for the henna stain to reach it's darkest color.

Tattoos lasts anywhere from 1 -2 weeks.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

@sesley_sloboda

 I have been following Lady Lorelie's work for a while now and have always been so amazed by her limitless talent, so to actually have an opportunity to learn from her was unbelievable.  You bring such an incredible energy that I felt like I've know you forever.

@thegrasian

I've had several opportunities to have Lady Lorelie adorn me in the most beautiful henna this summer. The best and worst part about henna is that it's temporary. I love the limiteless potential for creative expression, but I always miss the pieces once they have faded away.

@rasaholistic

We had such a beautiful blessingway for these lovely ladies today with henna by Lady Lorelie. Channeling ancient wisdom from the ethers, she is a true gem.
